Ok, I thought McCain won big, big enough to overcome the media spin. Time will tell. But I also was reassured by Obama, which may be the most important thing for a public that largely feels its time to try a different party. But while thinking of the debate I came up with my "nutshell" problem with Obama and actually with many of his supporters. Let's see if I can be clear...
Obama had to read the name from his bracelet. This does not change his point... but... I think Obama & many fans cannot understand that a deeper reality is possible. I am saying many of these people are shallow, at least politically. They assume that when McCain does NOT need to read the name from his bracelet, well... the old guy just did a bit better on showmanship on this one small point. For me, McCain's bracelet was 10 times more sincere & real.
Maybe I am just naive, but I think the tale of two bracelets is all about two completely different levels of, not just compassion, but of understanding. People who cannot see the difference, and there are many, are really from a different breed. But leadership & decision making is not all about the show & the technique.
I think each of our Personal Realities are capped by the things we can and cannot understand. Obama is a much better showman. For people who do not see much beyond the Show... then they have a clear & easy choice. This explains why they are so mystified that anyone would prefer McCain -- who they correctly perceive to be a vastly inferior candidate....as far as they can see. And they think everything he does is just a Show -- because they think they are watching a Show. The only reason McCain might postpone a debate is because he thought it was a good Show. As if the Show is everything. If your only tool is a hammer then all you can see are nails!
There are many ways in which Professional Football and Professional Wrestling are similar. But, while both might be entertaining... one is real and one is theater. And, like McCain said a few times... Obama does not get it. And I have to wonder: how many of Obama's supporters do any better?
